Dear [Mr./Mrs./Ms./Mx.] [Hiring Manager’s Name],
I am excited to apply for the server position at The Savory Spoon Restaurant, as advertised on your website. As a recent high school graduate with a passion for food and customer service, I am eager to begin my career in the restaurant industry.
While I may not have formal restaurant experience, I have developed skills that I believe would make me a valuable addition to your team. As captain of my high school soccer team, I learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and working under pressure – all skills crucial in a fast-paced restaurant environment. Additionally, my part-time job at the local community center’s snack bar gave me experience in cash handling, basic food preparation, and customer interaction.
I am a quick learner and have a strong work ethic. I’m comfortable with technology and can adapt quickly to point-of-sale systems. My friends and family often comment on my friendly demeanor and ability to make people feel welcome, which I believe would translate well to creating a positive dining experience for your customers.
The Savory Spoon’s reputation for excellent food and warm hospitality is well-known in our community. I particularly admire your commitment to using locally-sourced ingredients and your seasonal menu changes. As someone who enjoys cooking at home and trying new recipes, I’m excited about the opportunity to work in an environment that values culinary creativity.
I am available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and I’m committed to being a reliable and hardworking team member. I’m eager to learn all aspects of restaurant operations and to contribute to The Savory Spoon’s continued success. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my enthusiasm, interpersonal skills, and willingness to learn can benefit your team.
Sincerely,

Dear [Mr./Ms./Mx.] [Hiring Manager’s Last Name],
Lisandro’s Spot has been my favorite Italian place to eat in Miami for years, so I was thrilled to see your Restaurant Manager job posting on LinkedIn. In my 6 years in the hospitality industry, I’ve honed my skills in sales, operations, service delivery, customer satisfaction, and revenue growth.
Your job description mentioned needing a manager who can assist Lisandro’s in reducing high employee turnover, which has been negatively affecting customer satisfaction, service delivery, and revenue. One of my most significant achievements at my former restaurant was maintaining an employee turnover rate of 12%, significantly lower than the industry standard. Furthermore, I was able to train new staff in delivering high-quality customer care, resulting in a 1.5-star boost in online ratings during my tenure.
As a restaurant manager, my goal is to maximize customer satisfaction while efficiently managing the best staff, two missions I know are also central to Lisandro’s business. As a result, I am confident that I would be an excellent fit for your Restaurant Manager role.
I’m eager to discuss my qualifications and experience further, as well as what more I can do for your restaurant. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Dear [Mr./Mrs./Ms./Mx.] [Hiring Manager’s Name],
I am writing to express my strong interest in the Floor Manager position at Fusion Flavors Restaurant, as advertised on your website. With over a decade of diverse experience in the restaurant industry, I am excited about the opportunity to bring my skills and passion for hospitality to your renowned establishment.
My journey in the restaurant world began as a server and has progressed through various roles including bartender, shift supervisor, and most recently, assistant manager at The Urban Plate, a high-volume restaurant with 150 seats. In my current role, I’ve honed my skills in team leadership, customer service excellence, and operational efficiency. I’ve successfully trained and mentored over 30 new hires, implemented a new reservation system that increased table turnover by 15%, and consistently maintained food and labor costs within budget.
I pride myself on my ability to create a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and excellence. At The Urban Plate, I’ve maintained an employee retention rate well above the industry average, by fostering open communication and recognizing team members’ contributions. I’m also adept at handling challenging situations, from managing high-volume nights to resolving guest concerns with tact and professionalism.
I’m excited about the opportunity to bring my experience, leadership skills, and passion for hospitality to Fusion Flavors. I’m confident that my proven track record in enhancing operational efficiency, team performance, and guest satisfaction would make me a valuable addition to your management team. Sincerely,
[Your Name]
Skills to highlight in your restaurant cover letter
Restaurant workers are categorized into two main roles:
- Front-of-house restaurant staff who manage reservations, greet customers, take orders, and serve food and drinks
- Back-of-house staff who handle kitchen operations, including preparing food, cooking, and cleaning
There’s no shortage of restaurant opportunities in 2025, as food and beverage server roles are expected to grow by 5%.With restaurant roles experiencing much faster growth than the average across all occupations, now is a great time to land a job in the restaurant business.
But because restaurant positions have relatively minimal experience and educational requirements, you’ll still face competition with a large applicant pool.
To make your application stand out, let hiring managers know why you want to work for their specific restaurant in your cover letter. Additionally, your restaurant cover letter should highlight key food service–related skills, most of which are soft skills (personality traits that affect how you work).
Whether you’re a manager, cook, or busser, you can appeal to employers by adding some of the following skills to your cover letter:
- Customer service skills
- Interpersonal skills
