How to write a resume for assembler work

Assemblers play an important role in the manufacturing process for everything from furniture and electronic devices to automobiles and aircraft. Responsible for putting together products from individual parts, assemblers often work with a variety of hand and power tools.

As a result, employers look for assemblers who either already have assembling experience or who can follow instructions and learn new skills quickly. So having a well-written assembler resume that details your relevant skills and expertise is essential for landing this job.

Here’s how to write a job-winning resume for assembler work:

1. Make your assembler job descriptions stand out with hard numbers

As an assembler, it’s important to include hard numbers in your job descriptions on your resume. Rather than just saying you have experience, use numbers to show employers the level of experience you have with certain assembling tasks.

List hard numbers in your resume’s work experience section under each position you’ve held. For example, you might write something like this in one of your resume’s bullet points:

  • Assembled 100+ universal remote controls per day

More examples of hard numbers you can include are:

  • the average time it took you to complete tasks
  • how accurate your work was (for example, “achieved a 99.8% accuracy rate”)
  • the number of assemblers you trained or supervised

Whatever numbers you choose to include, make sure they’re relevant to the job you’re applying for and that they’ll give employers a good understanding of your product-assembling abilities.

2. Emphasize your job-related skills on your assembler resume

When employers read your resume, they’ll look for both hard and soft skills.

Your hard skills (which you learn through training) include the ability to read and follow instructions or perform quality-control checks to ensure that products meet the required standards.

These are more hard skills to list on your resume if they’re included in your target job’s requirements:

  • experience with precision hand tools (torque wrenches, micrometers, tolerance gauges, etc.)
  • experience with power tools (pneumatic and hydraulic tools, etc.)
  • experience soldering and wiring
  • schematic & blueprint literacy (both 2D and 3D mechanical drawings)
  • electrical schematics literacy
  • knowledge of safety regulations and procedures
  • hazardous material handling (proper disposal of industrial chemical waste)
  • OSHA compliance and implementation
  • equipment maintenance
  • technical documentation & reporting
  • mechanical troubleshooting
  • repairs assistance
  • applied mathematics (converting between Metric and Imperial measurements)

In addition to hard skills, you’ll also need to list some soft skills — natural parts of your personality that help you interact with other assemblers and your managers. Here are examples of the soft skills you should list on your assembler resume to stand out to employers:

  • Communication skills
  • Time management skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Multitasking
  • Teamwork

Don’t forget to use a resume format that effectively emphasizes your strengths.

3. Write an attention-grabbing assembler resume objective

Your resume objective is one of the most important parts of your resume. This 2–4 sentence summary of your most job-relevant qualifications is the first thing that employers will see on your resume, so it should highlight why you’re the best candidate for the assembly job you want.

To write an attention-grabbing resume objective, you first need to read the job ad to determine which of your skills and experience best match the job requirements. You should also research the company’s website to get an even better idea of what they’re looking for in an assembler.

Below is an example of a resume objective tailored to a job ad that mentions the need for an assembler with technical experience (highlighted in bold text) and excellent interpersonal skills (indicated with italic text):

Precision-focused assembler with 4+ years of experience operating heavy-duty machinery, reading instructions, analyzing blueprints/schematics, and evaluating erroneous work for corrections. Apply outstanding collaboration and interpersonal skills to communicate well with staff members and leaders. Excited to bring quick learning of new technologies and systems to guarantee quality work at Reynolds Inc.
