How to write a Walmart resume
When it comes to applying for a job at Walmart, your resume is key. This document is your opportunity to sell yourself to the Walmart hiring manager and demonstrate why you’re the best candidate for the role.
To make a resume that gets you hired at Walmart, follow our three expert writing tips:
1. Target a specific Walmart job description
When you’re applying for a job at Walmart, it’s important to make sure that your resume is targeted to the specific job ad to increase your chances of being selected for an interview. This means including keywords from the job posting.
For example, if the Walmart job ad asks for candidates with experience in customer service, put customer service–related keywords in your resume. You can also include other relevant resume keywords, such as “retail” or “sales,” like this applicant did in one of their resume’s bullet points:
- Worked with the retail manager to organize product displays for optimal results based on extensive sales data
When you write your cover letter, tailor it to the Walmart job ad as well. Again, be sure to use relevant keywords and phrases.
2. Highlight your relevant skills on your Walmart resume
Walmart is one of the largest employers in the United States, so they receive many applications for each open position. If you’re hoping to land a job at Walmart, it’s important to include hard and soft skills that are relevant to the position you’re applying for on your resume.
Hard skills are abilities you’ve developed through school or on-the-job training, like forklift operating skills. Soft skills are natural parts of your personality you’ll use to interact with customers and coworkers at Walmart.
For example, if you’re applying for a position in customer service, highlight your customer service skills, including:
- conflict resolution
- interpersonal skills
- point-of-sale (POS) equipment and programs
- friendliness
- people skills
- problem solving
Or if you’re applying for a position in the stockroom, highlight your:
- organizational skills
- inventory management skills
- ability to lift heavy objects
- energy
- understanding of safety regulations
- initiative
Finally, Walmart prefers candidates who work well as part of a team. So if you have good teamwork skills, include examples of times when you’ve worked effectively as part of a team on your resume.
Whatever position you’re applying for, make sure your resume highlights the skills that will help you succeed in that role. With the right skills on your resume, you’ll have a better chance of landing the job you want at Walmart.
3. Write an attention-grabbing Walmart resume objective
When you make a resume for a job at Walmart, you need a well-written resume objective. A resume objective is 2–4 sentences at the top of your resume that highlight your most relevant skills and experience. An effective resume introduction can help catch the attention of the Walmart hiring manager and give them a better understanding of who you are as a candidate.
Keep your resume objective short and to the point — you don’t want to bore the hiring manager with too much information. Keep it concise and focused on why you’re a great fit for the role.
