Dear [Mr./Ms./Mx.] [Hiring Manager’s Last Name],

I’m writing to express my interest in the Certified Medical Assistant position at Northern Nevada Health Care Center. With 2+ years of hands-on experience in both administrative and clinical settings, I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute my skills and knowledge to your esteemed healthcare facility.

My role as a Medical Receptionist at the Urgent Care Center in Henderson, NV, allowed me to hone my ability to manage patient communications effectively. Handling 100+ phone calls daily, I provided essential information to patients and their families in both English and Spanish, ensuring that language barriers never hindered access to care.

My background also includes an internship as a Medical Assistant with United Health Group, where I was responsible for recording and filing patient information and preparing rooms for clinical examinations. This experience reinforced my dedication to patient-centered care and my ability to operate efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

I’m particularly drawn to this position at Northern Nevada Health Care Center because of my passion for providing compassionate care to diverse patient populations. My bilingual abilities, combined with my proficiency in medical terminology, injections, vaccinations, and patient preparation, make me well-equipped to support the medical team. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my experience and skills align with the needs of your team.

Sincerely,

Your Name

Dear [Mr./Ms./Mx.] [Hiring Manager’s Last Name],

I am writing to apply for the part-time Medical Assistant position at DC Clinic, as advertised on medicaljobsusa.com. I am a certified AAMA Medical Assistant, with 6+ years of professional experience in patient liaison, record management, reception and general office administration. I have worked at a range of medical facilities, from private physician office settings to large, state-run hospitals. In my recent position as the Medical and Services Assistant at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC, I was trained in administering injections, recording EKG’s, patient scheduling, medical coding (ICD9/10 and NCPT) and phlebotomy/blood draws.

I am certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR with adult, child and infants, and am highly skilled in using the MS Office Suite and Electronic Health Records (EHR) software. Specific highlights of my career include:

  • Enhancing patient relations and reducing critical wait times
  • Developing cost-effective administrative procedures
  • Training staff members in patient interaction and communication

I have a Diploma in Medical Assisting Services from Herzing University. I’m confident that my extensive medical and administrative skills would be of benefit to this position and to DC Clinic. I have attached a copy of my resume with this email. If you need any further information, please call me at (123) 456-7895.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Dear [Mr./Ms./Mx.] [Hiring Manager’s Last Name],

I’m excited to apply for the Senior Medical Assistant position at Cedar Grove Medical Center, bringing over nine years of experience within fast-paced hospital and clinic environments. My background as a Certified Medical Assistant, complemented by my leadership experience and commitment to quality patient care, makes me an ideal candidate for this role.

Currently, I serve as a Lead Medical Assistant at West End Family Health in Provo, UT, where I mentor a team of five medical assistants, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients with both acute and chronic needs. Notably, I led a patient education initiative that enhanced the effectiveness of our communication, resulting in an 18% increase in patient compliance with treatment plans.

In previous roles, including at Denton Community Medical Clinic and OrthoAlaska, I have consistently demonstrated my ability to support various medical departments, assisting in over 1,000 medical procedures and managing patient intake processes with precision.

I’m eager to bring my expertise to Cedar Grove Medical Center and am confident that my experience and dedication to quality healthcare align with the values of your team. Thank you for considering my application. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss how my background and skill set can be of value to your team.

Sincerely,

Your Name

Medical assistant cover letter writing tips

A medical assistant helps out with a little bit of everything around a doctor’s office, from taking patients’ vitals to collecting samples.

Medical assistant jobs are expected to grow by 14% in the next decade, which is much faster than most jobs. If you want to go into medical assisting, you’ll need to show employers you can perform well on both the administrative and clinical sides of their work.

To help your application stand out, here are three tips for writing a strong medical assistant cover letter:

1. Highlight your medical assistant skills

In a field as high stakes as medicine, employers need to know you have the necessary medical assistant skills to thrive. Although they are also listed on your resume, expand on the most impressive ones on your cover letter.

Not only is getting medical assistant skills an achievement worth highlighting, but also hiring managers won’t call you in if they think you don’t know how to do what they need for their patients.

Here are some critical medical assistant skills to work into your cover letter:

  • Bookkeeping software
  • Scheduling software
  • Document management
  • Medical software (Epic Systems and MEDITECH software)
  • Office suite software (Microsoft Office)
  • General computer skills
  • Basic life support
  • Phlebotomy
  • Administering injections
  • Communication skills
  • Medical coding
  • Receptionist skills
  • Recording EKGs
  • Taking medical histories
  • Time management
  • Recording vital signs
  • Basic nursing skills

Also, mention your relevant degrees and certifications. A Diploma in Medical Assisting Services, like in this sample, or a CPR certification makes it clear that you’re educated and have passed a set of quality standards.

Although many medical assistant skills are technical skills, you should also highlight your people skills to show that you have a good bedside manner. Your whole application, in fact, should balance the necessary hard skills with soft skills to prove that you can do it all.

2. Tailor your medical assistant cover letter to the job post

Every medical assistant job is different based on what the office requires and the state allows. That makes it a bad idea to send the same cover letter to every open position in the first place. But also, when you tailor each one to the job at hand, hiring managers take notice and see that you’re the perfect fit.

Scan the job listing for the requirements the employer has included, and then address them in your cover letter with examples of your accomplishments in those areas.

If you’re unsure what to include, we’ve analyzed the most common words and phrases employers use in medical assistant job ads. Use these to help fill out your cover letter and better match what hiring managers are looking for.

3. Include strong medical assistant action verbs

Hiring managers want to find employees who go beyond their basic set of tasks at work. So instead of filling your cover letter with descriptions of what you were responsible for, use strong action verbs to show how you made a difference in your previous positions. It’ll better highlight your accomplishments and catch the employer’s attention.

Some examples of relevant medical assistant action verbs are:

  • Improve
  • Reduce
  • Convey
  • Discuss
  • Explain
  • Specify
  • Facilitate
  • Administer
  • Coordinate
  • Manage
  • Carry out
  • Anticipate
  • Specialize
  • Nurture
  • Chart
  • Classify
  • Standardize
  • Support

Employers love action verbs like these because they demonstrate that you don’t just know what to do in an office, but you work to make their lives (and their patients’ lives) easier.
