How to write a barback resume
A barback is a bartender’s assistant. They’re responsible for the setup of the bar, stocking it with supplies and ingredients, and the cleanup of the bar after closing. Barbacks also clean up any spills that occur in the kitchen or dining room.
When you write a resume for a barback position, you should include your skills, experience, and qualifications. You should also add an introductory paragraph about yourself.
Here’s how to write a barback resume that impresses hiring managers:
1. Highlight your barback experience
Include data in your barback resume job descriptions to help hiring managers understand what your capabilities are. For example, you can list the:
- average number of customers assisted during each shift
- dollar value of the drink collection you were responsible for
- amount of money you handled
- customer satisfaction rating of your team
Here’s an example of a well-written barback resume’s work experience section that uses hard numbers to demonstrate the candidate’s value:
- Tested and participated in approving new mixed drinks recipes, contributing to a 20% increase in sales within 2 months through 5 new drinks recipes that became big hits
- Refine the operations of the setup through proper handling of all customer concerns, cashier duties, and liquor and wine inventory worth $2,000+
- Helped increase the clientele by 10% by establishing rapport with new customers and offering excellent service
2. Showcase your hard and soft skills
Bar hiring managers look for barbacks who have great soft skills (natural parts of your personality) like a good memory, attention to detail, and good customer service. You should also be able to work under pressure and multitask effectively.
Also, if you have experience as a barback, you should have hard skills you learned on the job, such as keg changing expertise.
Here are more hard and soft skills hiring managers look for on barback resumes:
- Point of sale (POS) systems
- Physical energy
- Mixology knowledge
- Organizational skills
- Beerline cleaning
- Problem solving
- Inventory management
- Ability to follow instructions
It’s important to find out what skills are needed for the position you want so your resume doesn’t get too cluttered with irrelevant information. So be sure the skills on your resume match the ones listed in the job ad you’re responding to.
3. Briefly introduce yourself
It’s important to have a clear and concise resume objective that highlights your skills and abilities to catch an employer’s attention.
Your resume objective should attract the attention of bar employers with a 3–4 sentence overview of your skills and what you can offer your target bar or restaurant.
Here’s a good example of a barback resume objective that’s written to impress the hiring manager:
Highly energetic, friendly barback and server with 4+ years of experience building rapport with customers and maintaining industry standards for safety and service. Support mixologists with excellent multitasking to provide clean bartending supplies and refine the bar setup for efficiency, based on specific bartenders’ methods.
