Dear Ms. Stephanie Smith,
As an Operations Manager with 10+ years of experience fostering robust relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues, I was thrilled to see your job posting on Indeed.com for an Operations Manager at Amazon. With my experience supervising and motivating staff, delivering measurable results, and achieving organizational goals, I believe I’d be a great asset to the Amazon team.
While working as an Operations Manager at Costco, I managed a team of 20 managers and 200+ co-workers by delegating duties, streamlining operations, and setting attainable KPIs. In addition, I effectively oversaw the recruitment and training of 400+ new hires and handled their appraisals.
In my last position, I incorporated a custom-designed order fulfillment program that generated $3M in additional revenue. Furthermore, I cut merchandise loss by 25% by introducing innovative theft prevention protocols. I’m confident that my excellent leadership skills and proven ability to help companies reach their goals can benefit Amazon.
I’ve attached my resume which goes over my professional experience and educational background in detail. Thank you for your time. I’d be happy to discuss my qualifications with you if you have any questions, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Aubrey Russo
How to write an Amazon cover letter
At Amazon, there are different types of junior and senior level positions to apply for depending on your background and level of experience.
If you’re working in the customer service department, you’ll be responsible for answering customer inquiries and resolving issues. These tasks will require excellent soft skills (traits showing how you relate to others in a work setting) like patience and communication skills.
Meanwhile, workers in fulfillment centers pack and prepare items for shipment, while employees in the transportation department load and unload trucks and deliver packages to the fulfillment centers. In these roles, hard skills (technical abilities learned from training and practical experience) like machine operation are essential.
Some examples of other jobs you can apply for at Amazon are Human Resources Manager, Marketing Specialist, or Software Developer, all of which require specialized sets of hard and soft skills.
Here’s how to write an Amazon cover letter that shows you have the necessary qualifications to succeed in your target role:
1. Write a compelling cover letter introduction
When writing a cover letter, include a brief but convincing introduction that accurately highlights your top qualifications. Your Amazon cover letter’s opening paragraph should be concise but also:
- grab the hiring manager’s attention
- make the company want to learn more about you
- help your target employer determine why you’re suitable for the job
To write an effective cover letter introduction, begin by mentioning which position you’re applying for and expressing your excitement for the job. Then, summarize what makes you a good candidate.
Here’s an example of a good Amazon cover letter introduction that accurately depicts the applicant’s enthusiasm and reason for applying to the role:
2. Showcase relevant skills and experience in your body paragraphs
The next two paragraphs of your cover letter should focus on showcasing your relevant skills and achievements. These body paragraphs will help convince employers that your previous experience qualifies you for the job.
The more specific you are, the better your Amazon cover letter will be. Use hard numbers and percentages to quantify your accomplishments and strengthen your cover letter.
A cover letter should be no longer than one page, so if you want to highlight several achievements but don’t have enough space, use bullet points.
3. End with a call to action
After you’ve finished your body paragraphs, end your cover letter with a call to action that encourages employers to reach out to you for an interview. Here’s a good example of a short and polite cover letter closing statement:
Thank you for your time. I’d be happy to discuss my qualifications with you if you have any questions, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.
By including a call to action in your concluding paragraph, you show hiring managers you’re interested in the job and eager to move forward with the hiring process.
