How to write a supply chain analyst resume

Supply chain analysts oversee a long string of business operations, from sourcing products to manufacturing and distribution, to transportation, logistics, and delivery. Managing so many moving parts, and making sure they’re all optimized, requires exceptional organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

It’s a supply chain business analyst’s job to make sure that business operations run smoothly and efficiently from start to finish. The supply chain managing market is Make the hiring process just as easy for your future employers by submitting a stand-out resume with these tips:

1. Start with a solid introduction

Supply chain analysts work in a fast-paced environment, as do their hiring managers. When reviewing resumes, hiring managers are looking for candidates with the right skill set and a proven track record of delivering results.

Deliver that information to them as soon as possible by starting your resume with a strong introduction.

Before writing your resume introduction, read the job description of the position you’re applying for one more time. Take note of any specific skills for your resume or credentials that the company is looking for in applicants, and work these into your introduction.

For example, if a job listing says:

Hiring a supply chain analyst with a minimum of 2 years of experience to join our company. Must be highly organized and solutions-oriented. Looking for a candidate that can implement changes across operations to increase profit without sacrificing quality. Certification in supply chain management is a plus.

Then a targeted resume introduction might look like this:

Supply Chain Business Analyst with 3+ years of experience and expertise in procurement. Skilled in negotiation and cutting company spending while ensuring maintenance of high-quality standards. Highly organized and always pursuing new strategies to bring greater solutions, with certification in Planning and Inventory Management.

2. Support your work history section with data

Employers seeking a supply chain analyst are looking for someone to help them achieve tangible results. If you’re not including examples of such results in your resume, then you’re missing an opportunity to capitalize on your most crucial professional skill.

Because the role of a supply chain analyst consists largely of data analysis and achieving results, it should be natural to include quantifiable accomplishments in your supply chain resume.

Take the point below for an example:

Collect and analyze operations data to identify processes in need of improvement, develop and implement strategies to streamline supply chain operations

This is a good summary of job duties, perhaps, but it isn’t very informative and lacks the power to impress.

By adding hard numbers and action verbs, this same point becomes much more compelling:

Develop strategies to streamline supply chain operations, so far having implemented over 30 strategies with the result of reducing average product delivery time by 15%

Here’s another example of a bullet point that lacks hard data:

Communicate with suppliers to discuss and agree upon a fair price for goods

Certainly, communicating with suppliers is an important part of the role, but this bullet point doesn’t effectively communicate whether the candidate succeeded in their role.

Now, here’s that same bullet point but including hard numbers that precisely illustrate the candidate’s contribution to the company:

Successfully negotiated product costs to save the company 4% of annual spending

3. Highlight your skills

Once you’ve listed work experience on your resume, it’s time to turn your attention to your skills section.

Employers want to know you’re capable of doing the job, but more importantly, they want to know you’re capable of doing it well.

Your resume’s skills section is your opportunity to draw attention to additional skills that aren’t already prominently featured in your introduction or work experience.

It takes many skills to be a successful supply chain analyst, from technical skills on the data analysis side to the interpersonal skills required to communicate with every team along the production chain.

To help you get inspired, below are some of the skills it takes to be a supply chain analyst:

  • Microsoft Office Suite + MS Power Business Intelligence (BI)
  • CPIM/CSCP
  • Certification by APICS
  • Data analytics
