Dear [Mr./Mrs./Ms./Mx.] [Hiring Manager’s/Casting Director’s Name],

I’m writing to express my keen interest in being considered for acting opportunities through Horizon Talent Agency. As an enthusiastic and dedicated aspiring actor, I’m excited to bring my natural talent, work ethic, and fresh perspective to the entertainment industry.

While I don’t have professional acting credits yet, my passion for performing arts has been a driving force throughout my life:

  • Participated in numerous school plays and local community theater productions
  • Completed a six-month intensive acting workshop at the Los Angeles Actors Studio
  • Developed strong improvisational skills through weekly classes at Comedy Sportz LA

My background in customer service has honed my ability to connect with people, adapt to various situations, and work collaboratively – all valuable skills for an actor. I’m known for my versatility, quick learning ability, and unwavering commitment to my craft.

What draws me to Horizon Talent Agency is your reputation for nurturing new talent and your impressive track record of launching successful careers. I’m also inspired by your agency’s commitment to diversity and authenticity in casting.

Key attributes I bring include:

  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Ability to take direction and apply feedback effectively
  • Proficiency in accents and dialects

I’m eager to bring my dedication, creativity, and fresh energy to the acting world. I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to audition and demonstrate my potential. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of contributing to Horizon Talent Agency’s roster of promising new talent.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Dear [Mr./Mrs./Ms.] [Manager’s Name],

I’m writing to you regarding the role of Marty with your new production, which I discovered on iHire. I have experience in film, television, and voice work, and I received my BFA from Julliard Drama School. I am right for the role you’re currently casting because I have the necessary look for the part, I’m fluent in Spanish, and I have a classically trained baritone singing voice.

My experience in film and television has taught me the nuances between the two mediums, allowing me to move smoothly between each type of work and find ways to amplify my characters as much as possible. My role on Bill My Dad was originally written as a one-episode part, but became a recurring character that lasted three seasons. I also have ample experience with comedy and drama, and have performed for young audiences as well as adult viewers throughout my career.

My time as a voice actor — and at Mac & Mildred especially — allowed me to hone my vocal abilities, which would be suitable for your program. My 5’6”, 115-pound frame is also perfect for the character of Marty. Finally, my training in improvisation has given me an advantage in working with and for children, as well as being able to fully embody a new character very quickly.

I’m looking forward to discussing the role and my qualifications with you in more detail soon. I feel confident that I fulfill the requirements for this role. You can reach me by phone at (661)-537-1290, or via email at tom.myers@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Tom Myers

I’m writing to express my interest in joining Stellar Representation’s roster of talent. With a decade of professional acting experience spanning theater, television, and film, I believe my versatility and proven track record make me a valuable addition to your agency.

My career highlights include:

  • Lead role in the critically acclaimed indie film “Whispers in the Wind” (2023), which premiered at Sundance and earned me a Best Actor nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards
  • Recurring character on HBO’s hit series “City Lights” for three seasons (2020-2023)
  • Guest star appearances on popular network shows including “Law & Order: SVU,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “This Is Us”
  • Lead role in the Broadway revival of “Death of a Salesman” (2021), which ran for 250 performances and received Tony Award nominations

Beyond my on-screen and stage work, I’ve also lent my voice to several animated series and video games, showcasing my range and adaptability as a performer.

What draws me to Stellar Representation is your boutique approach to talent management and your strong relationships within the industry.

I’m at a point in my career where I’m looking to take on more challenging and diverse roles that push my boundaries as an actor. I’m particularly interested in complex character-driven projects and opportunities to work with visionary directors in both film and prestige television.

I’m excited about the prospect of partnering with Stellar Representation to elevate my career to new heights. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to discussing how we can create a mutually beneficial partnership that drives both artistic and commercial success.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Acting cover letter writing tips

Actors portray characters either on-screen or in person to entertain audiences. So someone who knows how to follow direction and bring a script to life is in high demand for roles in television, film, and theater.

Convince a casting director you’re worth an audition by highlighting your acting talents in an exceptional cover letter.

Follow these three tips for writing an acting cover letter (also known as a resume cover page) to land your next role:

1. Open with a strong introduction

Knowing how to capture a casting director’s attention makes you stand out and boosts your chances of getting a callback.

A good cover letter introduction should be personal and specific to the opportunity. State the role you’re applying for and establish any common ground:

I’m interested in playing the role of Ishoa with your new production of Firelight, which I discovered on Backstage. As a seasoned actor with several credits in similar fantasy productions. I believe I would be a great fit.

You should also mention if you were referred for the role by a mutual connection. This builds credibility.

I’m interested in playing the role of Ishoa in your new production of Firelight, which I learned about through Backstage and was encouraged to apply for by Michael Turner, who I have worked with on similar fantasy productions, I believe I would be a great fit.

Your cover letter introduction should be concise: 2–3 sentences is plenty. Focus on giving the reader a quick, clear summary of your background and suitability for the role.

In total, your cover letter shouldn’t exceed 400 words. Make sure you know how to write a short cover letter that focuses on the right key details.

2. Highlight acting skills

Although there aren’t many formal requirements for acting, a good balance of hard and soft skills is vital for booking jobs and performing.

For instance, people skills, creativity, and communication skills are some soft skills that go hand-in-hand with your background or training in theater arts.

Here’s a list of skills to highlight in your acting cover letter:

  • Interpersonal skills
  • Adaptability
  • Confidence
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Dedication
  • Positive attitude
  • Time management skills
  • Memorization
  • Discipline
  • Improvisation
  • Speech clarity
  • Social perceptiveness
  • Physical stamina
  • Fluency in different languages
  • Knowledge of drama techniques
  • Training in performance arts

3. Show your passion for acting

Aside from showcasing your talents in your cover letter, another thing that’s sure to impress a casting director is your commitment to delivering an outstanding performance.

In your cover letter, emphasize your passion for acting to show them you’re a formidable candidate who’ll be fantastic to work with.

Here’s how to show your passion in your acting cover letter:

  • Show your enthusiasm for the role. Directors and producers are always looking to cast people who are passionate about what they do and willing to put in the work to perfect a performance.
  • Don’t just say you’re interested in the role, explain why.
  • Connect a personal passion to the job and use a storytelling approach to get a casting director interested in meeting you. For example, if you’re applying for a voice actor role for an after-school series’ revival, talk about how you have fond memories growing up of rushing home to tune in to that series with your siblings.
