How to write a yoga teacher resume
Yoga is a transformative experience — whether it’s done for stress relief, physical fitness, or spiritual well-being — so yoga teachers are in high demand.
But to land an interview, you need a resume that shows why you’re a perfect fit for the particular yoga studio you’re applying to.
Read our guide to learn everything you need to know about how to make a resume that highlights your skills and impresses employers.
Below are three tips to help you write a job-winning yoga teacher resume:
1. Highlight your yoga teaching skills
Yoga teachers have to be flexible — and not just when holding lotus pose. Guiding students to reach their yoga goals takes a versatile set of skills, with just the right balance of technical knowledge and teaching know-how.
Show your knowledge of yoga fundamentals by listing hard skills you’ve learned through training, such as:
- specialized yoga styles (for example Bikram Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, hot yoga, restorative yoga, aerial yoga)
- anatomy and physiology
- meditation
- pranayama, chakras, and mantras
- lesson planning
- group instruction
Additionally, an effective yoga teacher has job-specific soft skills (natural parts of your personality), such as knowing how to connect with and motivate their students. Here are some key soft skills to highlight on your yoga teacher resume:
- adaptability
- calmness
- empathy
- communication skills
- time management skills
Lastly, don’t forget to add any training you’ve completed or certifications on your resume. Some yoga studios expect you to have formal training. If so, list the training information the studio is looking for (check the job ad) in your yoga teacher resume’s education section or skills section.
2. Show your passion for yoga in your resume summary
Catch an employer’s eye by writing a compelling 2–4 sentence resume summary. Because this section gets the prime spot at the top of your resume, it’s the first thing hiring managers see when they read your yoga teacher resume. That makes it a great opportunity to make a solid first impression.
Your resume summary should introduce your most impressive skills, experience, and achievements.
Additionally, employers care about what kind of energy you’ll bring to the yoga studio, so use this space to highlight what sets you apart from other yoga instructors. Ultimately, the passion you bring to your classes is one of your best selling points as a yoga teacher.
Here’s an example of a summary that does just that:
In just 3 sentences, this yoga teacher comes across as highly skilled. At the same time, their personality shines through because they describe what they love most about teaching yoga — helping their students to become better versions of themselves.
3. Add action verbs to your resume
At the heart of any yoga practice is prana, or life force. As a yoga teacher, you’re a master at tapping into the body’s energy and flow. Now do the same for your resume by adding energy to your work experience with strong action verbs.
Many yoga teachers’ resumes overuse phrases like “tasked with” or “responsible for”. These words come across as lazy, and they don’t describe your abilities.
Replace clichés with powerful action verbs such as “trusted to” or “charged with.” By starting each work experience entry with one of these verbs or phrases, you’ll show what you can achieve for a yoga studio, not just what duties you can perform.
Here’s an example of how replacing clichés with unique action verbs makes a yoga teacher resume’s work experience section more impressive:
And here’s a list of some action verbs you can use to make your yoga teacher resume more engaging:
- Innovate
- Record
- Instruct
- Assess
- Track
- Expand
- Propel
- Energize
- Trim
- Conduct
- Direct
- Steer
- Nurture
- Cultivate
