How to write a Starbucks resume

With 34,000+ stores worldwide, good benefits, and flexible hours, Starbucks is an appealing place to work. And with a minimum age requirement of 16 years old, Starbucks is also a great place to land your first job.

Follow our four tips to write a Starbucks resume that lands you an interview:

1. Tailor your resume objective to Starbucks

Specify that you want to work for Starbucks in your resume objective.

While your application is sent to all the Starbucks locations you’ve selected in the portal, when you print your resume to follow up with managers in person, specify the store number in your resume objective.

Placing importance on equity and inclusion, Starbucks calls its employees “partners.” Incorporate this language into your resume objective.

Good Starbucks Resume Objective

A collaborative and friendly barista with 2+ years of customer service experience in the food service industry. Looking to join the partners at Starbucks as a barista.

2. Address the job description fully

Highlight your skills asked for in the job description.

The Starbucks job description is broken up into:

  • A description about Starbucks as a workplace
  • “You’d be a great barista if you..”
  • Basic Qualifications
  • Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Because your resume’s length should be about one page, be sure to add the most important skills — those that appear multiple times in the job description — to your resume first.

For example, strong interpersonal skills are mentioned in all of the sections of the Starbucks job description, so provide examples of your interpersonal skills in different places throughout your resume.

If you have space, you can then address qualifications, such as food safety handling, that are mentioned only once in the job description.

Qualifications designated as less important by the job description can be placed in the skills section of your resume.

If you’re an applicant with little previous work experience, you may want to place your education higher up on your resume if it directly relates to the position. For a barista job, related majors to emphasize include:

  • Food Service Management
  • Food Science
  • Communications
  • Hospitality
  • Business Management

3. Highlight your soft skills

As outlined in their mission statement and values, Starbucks views customer service as the most important facet of their business.

Starbucks mission statement and values
Incorporate the Starbucks culture and values into your resume.

Therefore, let your resume show what “customer service” means to you.

You can use some of the following resume adjectives, along with action verbs, to describe your customer service:

  • Courteous
  • Friendly
  • Adaptable
  • Communicative
  • Efficient

Like customer service, most of the required qualifications for a Starbucks barista role are soft skills. You can describe these types of experiences to demonstrate how you communicate and work with others:

  • Volunteer work
  • Leadership roles in extra-curricular activities
  • Other customer service jobs not in the food service industry
