How to write a medical resume

Here are four tips for writing a medical resume that proves you’re qualified for the job:
1. Highlight your medical skills
When you write your medical resume, emphasize only your most relevant hard and soft skills.
To determine which of your skills are most relevant, read the job description and make a list of the skills required for the position. Then, pull the skills you have from the list and add them to your resume’s skills section and work experience section to let the hiring manager know you meet the job requirements.

Once you have acquired them, there are a few different places where you can include your licenses and certifications on your resume:
- Your resume summary – If the certification or license is required, include it in your resume summary so that employers can immediately tell that you’re qualified.
- Your skills section – If you have one or two relevant certifications, add them in your skills section (include them even if you already mentioned them in your resume introduction).
- A dedicated certifications section – Do you have three or more certifications? List them in a separate certifications section.
Keep in mind that regulations and requirements differ by state, so you’ll need to check the rules in the state you’re applying to work in.
Depending on the employer, they might help you get the certifications you need. This information is usually included in the job ad so make sure you read it carefully.
3. Emphasize your clinical expertise
To demonstrate to employers that you have the hands-on experience necessary to excel in a medical role, highlight some of your top achievements from working in a health care facility setting. Employers want to know that you have successfully applied your knowledge.

4. Include your research experience
It’s not only medical researchers who should highlight research experience on their resumes. If your target position requires a high level of expertise or specialization, mentioning your research experience can help set you apart from other candidates.
When adding research experience to your resume, include the:
- Date
- Institution
- Position held
